To find out more about the quarter, read what Pastor Steve Osborn, general editor, has to say:

One thing that you can say pretty much across the board with Seventh Day Baptists is this—we LOVE God’s Word. Our Statement of Belief says: “We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is our final authority in matters of faith and practice. We believe that Jesus Christ, in His life and teachings as recorded in the Bible, is the supreme interpreter of God’s will for mankind.”

Many evangelical churches tend to neglect the Old Testament. And while we interpret the Old Testament through the eyes of the New Testament, SDBs still place a high value on the Old Testament—possibly due in part to our understanding of the Sabbath.

This quarter’s lessons celebrate the value of the Old Testament—the Hebrew Scriptures—by studying the connections Jesus had with it. Unit One recognizes Jesus as the fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant. In Unit Two, the emphasis is on Jesus fulfillments of Old Testament prophecies leading up to the cross. Unit Three observes Jesus use of quotes from Old Testament Scriptures in His own teaching.

My hope is that this study will contribute to a greater understanding of what the Old Testament contributes to our faith and an even deeper appreciation of the Bible as God’s Word. I pray that your time spent in these studies will be a true blessing and help to draw you nearer to our precious Savior.

To God be the glory,
